The difficulties with ‘over cards’: Hole cards, which are bigger than any community cards are called over cards. If the exposed cards are by and large poor since it can’t present much opportunity. Does a player remain in the game with the high hole cards in anticipation of pairing one of his hole cards? If not, then should he determine whether he could win the kitty on the basis of his big card?

That’s tough to decide. When any poker player is one of the first few to bet then he should adopt the wait and watch routine to check and see if another player is betting more aggressively. Of course if a player is one of the latter players then he has had the chance to watch the opponents’ wagers, which could help him decide if he should lay a wager.

If the opponents are playing it cool then a player should remain in, however, if the other players are betting aggressively then it would be best to quit. It would be in the best interest of a player to remain in the game and be more aggressive as the flop decides the fate of most hands. A player should only remain until the fourth and Fifth Street if he has a good hand to begin with.

If not, it makes no sense to remain in the game because one has to lay a wager. Either the player should have very good cards or he should be capable of pretending so the opponents quit if they choose to remain until the latter rounds. A poker player should be pretty proficient at the game after the fourth or Fifth Street since only two to three players remain by this time and there will only be one winner in poker.

The player should ask himself some questions. What are the odds that another player has the card he needs to take the kitty? Is the other player exhibiting tells? Is the contender known? Is the contender repeatedly increasing the wager or is he just matching the other bets? Ascertain whether you know of all the possible chances of winning the kitty by inspecting the window. You need to ascertain your odds that you have a bigger flush if there is another contender with a flush?
