Guidelines and Tactics

When playing poker it is essential a poker player know when to quit in a game of holdem. A player is better off quitting immediately if his hole cards aren’t good, he should only consider staying in until the first flop if the wager isn’t too high. Let us say a player has two cards that aren’t in a sequence or let’s say he has a 3 of diamonds and a nine of hearts then he doesn’t stand much of a chance at winning.

The player is instantly aware the odds of getting a straight or a flush are nil, also that the cards are too small. Weak players who are playing Holdem with veterans must quit the game instantly if his hole cards aren’t too good and also if he isn’t sure that he has a good hand. If not, then the player is bound too lose loads of money. It doesn’t matter if a player quits frequently in a game of Holdem as this game ends very soon especially because this game doesn’t offer must down time.

Obviously if a poker player gets big (ten or bigger) pocket cards in pairs (such as a pair of Kings), or in a succession (such as a King and an Ace), suited cards, promising cards which present the player more than one ‘out’ or a chance to win (for example: cards that could be used to construct a straight or a flush). Of course a pair of big pocket cards is best.

Do not forget the fact that the player has to share many of the cards with the table and just one of the hole cards can be determined just by the use of one of his cards. In which case the player has to have cards that could beat the opponents’ cards in more ways than one. Let’s say a player has a pair of small hole cards (for example: sixes) it won’t stand much of a chance because if the window consists of a card which is bigger then it is very possible another player will build a bigger pair.

The spot in which a player is very important in a game of Holdem. If the player has low hole cards and he is one of the first few players to place a wager then it would be best that the player quits instantly from poker game. However if he is one of the last few to lay a wager then the player could observe how many opponents quit or lay a wager.

If a player is one of the latter players then he could either pretend his way into the round even if your cards aren’t too good especially in cases where the first few players aren’t poker betting too aggressively. Let’s say you have cards between 5 and 8 and nobody is betting aggressively chances are the opponents don’t have very good cards in which case a small pair, two pair and even a low straight might win.

Every now and then you’ll know that your pocket cards are good as soon as a community card has been exposed, at least you get an idea that it could get better, for example three or more cards in a suit, a big pair or higher than that. You know immediately that you should remain in the game and lay a wager after observing the manner in which the other players are laying a wager.
