HI-LOW: The players with the highest and the lowest hands share the kitty in Hi-Low poker games.
HOLE CARDS: connected cards in stud or community games such as Holdem poker or Omaha. The individual undisclosed cards that are dealt to players in games like Holdem and Ohmaha.
IN: A player is ‘in’ a hand if he calls all the bets.
INSIDE STRAIGHT: When a player has a four-straight and only requires one particular card to complete the straight. Let us say a player has 8- 9-J-Q. Waiting for a card in the middle to complete the straight could be dicey. See Open-Ended Straight.
KICKER: A card, which reinforces a hand and yet it doesn’t add to a pair or better. For example a hand with 9-9-A 5-3 would be termed as a pair of 9s with an Ace Kicker.
LIMIT POKER: When the maximum betting gaming limits are preset in a game.
LOCK: See Cinch.
MAKE: Shuffle a pack of cards.
NUTS: Cinch.
OPEN: The first shuffle in a game.
OPEN-ENDED STRAIGHT: When a player has four connecting cards, which could be a straight with a choice of one card each on any of the two sides. For example, 7-8-9-10 (Either a 6 or a J could complete the straight) See Inside straight.
POT ODDS: The proportion of money in between the amount a player needs to stay in the hand and the amount that is in the kitty. A player should evaluate the kitty to see if it’s worthwhile to stay in the hand
RAISE: When a player increases the amount of the wager that the last player has bet. I’ll match your five rupees and raise you another ten rupees. See Bump.
RIVER: The last card to be disclosed in a community game. See Fifth Street.
